The purpose of this series is to spotlight some bands that are currently crushing it in the Colorado music scene! There's just so much talent to go around and not enough recognition, so this is just one way to shed some light on the incredibly unique acts that grace the stages around the Rocky Mountain region. There will also be a Spotify Playlist every month with the featured bands and artists to accompany these lists, so that you can give them a listen for yourself! Without further ado, let's jump right into it!

Grace DeVine

Denver has found its very own pop star in Grace DeVine, and there's no one better to represent the city than her. With catchy hooks and stunning vocal lines, Grace delivers a storytelling experience with her audience that has them sold from start to finish! One thing I love about her music is just how genuine and authentic her songs are; she doesn't hold anything back and that shows in her songwriting. These songwriting abilities can be heard on her newly released EP Taste of Heaven, which was released on September 15th with an accompanying show at Globe Hall to celebrate.

You can check out Grace's music video for “Just Around The Corner” down below and make sure to stream her brand new EP Taste of Heaven.

Cloud Catcher

Let me just say from personal experience, BRING EARPLUGS if you go to a Cloud Catcher show! I saw these guys at their show at Hi-Dive on September 30th for the release of their new album, Return From The Cauldron - and my ears are still ringing from that show, but I'm not complaining. Now in all seriousness, these guys rip. Cloud Catcher represents everything great about Heavy Metal music and they have been pioneering the way for the doom/stoner metal scene in Denver for more than 10 years now. Heavy riffage comes together with a booming drum sound to give you the experience known as Cloud Catcher, and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for these guys.

I also want to mention that these guys seriously have some of the slickest designed merch I've seen from a smaller band. Their designs and merch options are unbeatable, and they have plenty of options so that you never leave one of their shows empty handed.

Stream their album Return From the Cauldron down below or wherever else you listen to your music online and be on the lookout for future shows from them in and around Denver!

Deth Rali

Started by musician and producer Jay Maike, Deth Rali brings dreamwave and goth-pop songs to audiences across the Denver Metro Area and beyond. I first discovered Deth Rali through my dear friend and bandmate, Hunter Bates (Magnolia Grove, The Study Abroad), when he filled in for them at a show at the Marquis Theater back in July. While I was unable to attend that show, I was able to hear all about it through Hunter and other friends who attended. Now I'm not going to lie to you, I'm typically hesitant towards this genre of music, but Deth Rali is one of the few exceptions. Their music is something I can always throw on to vibe out to and their music videos are entertaining which just makes it that much more fun to enjoy! They're on my bucket list of bands to see live around town, and they should be on your's too!

Their music video for “Ruby's Castle Island” debuts Tuesday, October 10th and be sure to catch them at their next show at The 715 Club on November 11th!

Temporal Driver

This month features two doom metal bands: Cloud Catcher and Temporal Driver. I happened to discover both of these bands right about the same time as I got on a Denver metal kick over the last month or so; listening to bands such as Green Druid, The Munsens, and In the Company of Serpents. While they are the newest band out of all of the others on the scene, they have already managed to establish themselves as a powerhouse that's not going anywhere anytime soon. They've already opened for the likes of Pike vs the Automation and the Brant Bjork Trio and continue to regularly play bigger and better shows around Denver.

Although they don't have much in the form of released music out yet, you can check out their Enter Hototo demos on their Bandcamp and make sure to give them a follow on Instagram to stay updated on all of their upcoming shows and announcements. They are currently working on new music and are getting ready to drop their first album in early 2024! Additionally, go see them October 20th at Lost Lake when they open for Hashtronaut and Heave, along with Voidlung.

The Nova Kicks

I first shared the stage with The Nova Kicks at a small backyard music festival known as “Cornfest” (that itself is a story for another time) and I've been a fan ever since. They have an energy to them both on and offstage that is hard to match and that very few bands have replicated. You can oftentimes catch them playing some notable stages across the Rocky Mountain region, recently including the Levitt Pavilion in Denver where they opened up for The Regrettes. In the past they've also been featured as one of Indie 102.3's monthly featured artists, had radio airplay on Seattle's world famous KEXP, and played Endless Fest up in Fort Collins just to name a few achievements. As 2023 winds to a close, I'm excited to see what 2024 has in store for them!

They recently dropped a new single entitled “Records by the replacements” - which you can listen to on various platforms and you can also catch them gracing a stage near you soon enough!
