Welcome To Keeping Time
Intro
I know what your initial thoughts are - a drummer that has the ability to write? Well, I've decided to give this whole "blog" thing a shot because I just can't stop finding new things to dedicate my time and energy towards. Between all of the shows, recording sessions, rehearsals, and hours spent behind the kit, I figured there had to be at least SOMETHING worth writing about… hence how I got here.
I wanted a platform to get down and personal with everyone and talk in a more direct way about my personal experiences and stories thus far as a musician. Not only do I want to get into the nitty gritty, but also just explain my philosophy as a drummer and some of the useful tips and tricks I've picked up along the way. I want to entertain, educate, inspire, and share as much as I can in the hopes of inspiring at least one musician somewhere.
Chances are if you're reading this you already know me personally or rather a general idea of “who” I am, but on the off chance you randomly stumbled upon this blog - here's a little introduction about myself.
A Little About Me
As of writing this (May, 2023) I've been drumming for 11 years, 4 months, and 15 days to be exact. In fact, my first experience behind the kit was at a drum lesson that my parents had got from a free Groupon offer at a local music school. That date was December 17, 2011; just days before my 11th birthday. It was absolutely love at first sight or rather, first note. I remember begging and pleading with my parents after the lesson to please allow me to keep coming back and to just get some sticks, a practice pad, and the book my teacher had recommended for me. And, as they say, the rest is history.
Fast forward about a year and I finally got my very first drum kit in Spring 2013. The set in particular: a PDP by DW X-7 Series drum set. Coming home from Guitar Center with a full 7-piece drum set with cymbals, hardware, and everything else a drummer could possibly need is still one of my fondest memories in my music career. Don't get me wrong, there's been a lot of rewarding moments and memories that didn't revolve around materialistic goods, but there's just something so special about all of us receiving our first instruments that will stick with a musician forever.
From there I began to play in my first band (Our Generation), which was formed thanks to the help of the same band school where I had first started taking drum lessons. I would ultimately end up playing with them for 3 years until our eventual disbandment; but that's a story (or rather, blog post) for another time.
In the meantime I must thank you for getting this far, IF you have made it this far and I'm pretty excited to see where this whole blogging thing goes, whether one person or one hundred people read it. I have always loved and enjoyed writing and so I'm glad to finally be sharing that passion with others. Stay tuned as I will be updating this blog as much as my brain can handle and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with others and sharing my stories thus far!
Also, enjoy some legendary photos of me with my first drum set, as well as 12 year old me with my pride and joy in the local Guitar Center on day of purchase.
